THE crew from the South-West Marine Debris Clean-Up docked in Hobart
yesterday, after their 16th annual mission to keep Tasmania?s wild
beaches pristine unloaded another record haul of rubbish.
Team leader Matt Dell said consistent with the past few voyages,
plastics had been the main environmental offender, with his crew finding
buoys, ropes and synthetic fishing nets strewn across the World Heritage
region.
BEACH CLEAN-UP CREW READY TO ROLL
?We managed to get on to five beaches on the South-West coast and
collected more than 48,000 separate items from the shore,? he said.
?That?s 13,000 more pieces than we picked up last year. Each year I
think we can?t break the record but we always do.?
