As part of the conception of the energy ship SEEELEFANT, the experimental program for the conversion of marine litter into oil is also starting these days. For this purpose Lennart Rölz from OEOO was present at the Beach Cleanup Sylt 2018 last Sunday. After the cleanup, Lennart presented the work of One Earth – One Ocean to the organizers and helpers.

A part of the collected marine litter is used as a test sample by OEOO in order to be able to start its test series for the conversion of marine litter. The depolymerisation plant, with which these test series are started, is located near Dresden and is looked after by OEOO member and environmental engineer Erich Groever, who is responsible for the topic of oiling at OEOO. He also leads the attempts at oiling. The aim of the experiments is to test how the marine litter must be designed to be”feed” it to the oiling plants that are to be integrated into the SEEELEFANT. We are looking for a solution that is as ecological as possible and, at the same time, economical, to profitably utilize marine litter
