Representative \nmicroplastics from Berlayar Creek, Sungei Buloh, Pasir Ris and Lim Chu \nKang were isolated for polymer identification using Attenuated Total \nReflectance\u2013Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR\u2013FTIR) spectroscopy. \nMicroplastics were identified in all seven habitats, with the highest \nconcentration found in sediments at Lim Chu Kang in the northwest of \nSingapore. The majority of microplastics were fibrous and smaller than \n20 \u03bcm. A total of four polymer types were identified, including \npolyethylene, polypropylene, nylon and polyvinyl chloride. The \nrelationship between abundance of microplastics and sediment grain size \nwas also investigated, but no relationship was apparent.
