By hiring through OEOO, each employee’s regular salary secures the livelihood of 6 to 10 family members and fights local poverty directly at the grassroots level. Through reliable and fair compensation for our employees, the food supply for their families is stabilized. Additionally, cleaning up water bodies protects local fish stocks, which are the main source of nutrition in many coastal regions. The removal of plastic waste, microplastics, and pollutants protects marine wildlife. Since these toxins end up in edible fish via the food chain and ultimately in humans, cleaning up water bodies contributes directly to human health. Additionally, we promote the health of our teams directly on-site: In countries like Cambodia and Uganda, over 65 employees receive reliable health insurance. We educate the next generation: Through workshops and school projects, we raise awareness worldwide for clean oceans. In the Global South, we secure school partnerships by enabling regular access to education for children in the first place through meals, textbooks, and transport. In addition to the oceans, we clean inland waters, rivers, and lakes in a targeted manner using special vessels. This protects vital drinking water resources and limnic ecosystems directly on site. We offer safe working conditions, fair wages, and contractual security, including health insurance. This creates human dignity and protection against exploitation in regions where informal waste pickers are otherwise completely unprotected. At the same time, cleaner waters strengthen tourism and the local economy. We develop innovative, technological concepts for waste removal (the “Maritime Garbage Collection” using special vessels). In addition, research is being conducted on methods to meaningfully recycle the collected plastic waste. Through educational work, we highlight the fatal consequences of the global plastic economy. We encourage consumers and companies to reduce plastic consumption and promote a true circular economy. Healthy oceans and water bodies are the planet’s most important CO\u2082 sinks. By protecting marine ecosystems from destruction caused by plastic and oil, their natural function in the global climate system is stabilized. The absolute core of our mission: The cleanup of the oceans from macro- and microplastics protects seabirds, fish, and marine mammals from dying and preserves biodiversity underwater. Read details in our one-pager Our Contribution to the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) In our international project countries, we create permanent, fairly paid jobs (e.g., for ship crews or sorting staff). By hiring through OEOO, each employee’s regular salary secures the livelihood of 6 to 10 family members and fights local poverty directly at the grassroots level. Through reliable and fair compensation for our employees, the food supply for their families is stabilized. Additionally, cleaning up water bodies protects local fish stocks, which are the main source of nutrition in many coastal regions. The removal of plastic waste, microplastics, and pollutants protects marine wildlife. Since these toxins end up in edible fish via the food chain and ultimately in humans, cleaning up water bodies contributes directly to human health. Additionally, we promote the health of our teams directly on-site: In countries like Cambodia and Uganda, over 65 employees receive reliable health insurance. We educate the next generation: Through workshops and school projects, we raise awareness worldwide for clean oceans. In the Global South, we secure school partnerships by enabling regular access to education for children in the first place through meals, textbooks, and transport. In addition to the oceans, we clean inland waters, rivers, and lakes in a targeted manner using special vessels. This protects vital drinking water resources and limnic ecosystems directly on site. We offer safe working conditions, fair wages, and contractual security, including health insurance. This creates human dignity and protection against exploitation in regions where informal waste pickers are otherwise completely unprotected. At the same time, cleaner waters strengthen tourism and the local economy. We develop innovative, technological concepts for waste removal (the “Maritime Garbage Collection” using special vessels). In addition, research is being conducted on methods to meaningfully recycle the collected plastic waste. Through educational work, we highlight the fatal consequences of the global plastic economy. We encourage consumers and companies to reduce plastic consumption and promote a true circular economy. Healthy oceans and water bodies are the planet’s most important CO\u2082 sinks. By protecting marine ecosystems from destruction caused by plastic and oil, their natural function in the global climate system is stabilized. The absolute core of our mission: The cleanup of the oceans from macro- and microplastics protects seabirds, fish, and marine mammals from dying and preserves biodiversity underwater. We work internationally with local organizations, scientific institutes, companies, and state actors to successfully establish and scale cleanup concepts worldwide.
