Die Verschmutzung der Weltmeere, Flüsse und Seen durch (Plastik-)Müll ist eine der größten Herausforderungen für die Weltgesellschaft und ein Aspekt, der heute zunehmend auch in der Wissenschaft Beachtung findet. Zusammenhänge und Auswirkungen auf Mensch und Tier sind noch kaum umfassend erforscht. Um Wissenschaftlern, Journalisten, Umweltschutzorganisationen und NGOs weltweit die Möglichkeit zu bieten, sich schnell und umfassend über den Forschungsstand zu informieren, hat die Umweltorganisation One Earth – One Ocean e.V. eine umfangreiche Wissensdatenbank zum Thema Meeresmüll aufgebaut. Die Sammlung bietet kostenlosen Zugriff auf mehrere hundert aktuelle wissenschaftliche Studien zum Thema Marine Littering aus aller Welt.
